Dr. Gene Fortman
Dr. Fortman is a native of Farley, IA. He received his D.D.S. degree in 1971 from the University of Iowa and his Master of Science in Dentistry degree specializing in Periodontics in 1974 from Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He began practicing in Mason City in 1980 and continues his practice at North Iowa Periodontics. Dr. Fortman practiced in Rochester from 1974 to 2011. Dr. Fortman is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the Midwest Society of Periodontology, the Iowa Society of Periodontology as well as the American Dental Association, and the Iowa Dental Association. He is also a member of the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology. Dr. Fortman makes his home in Rochester, MN with his wife Barbara. He has two sons and five grandchildren. He also has a daughter who is a graduate of the University of Iowa, She is currently a student at Wingate University in North Carolina studying Physical Therapy. Dr. Fortman and his daughter share the love of the Hawkeyes.
After ten years of hospital nursing, Marilyn began working with Dr. Fortman in 1987 in Rochester, MN. In 2009 Marilyn joined North Iowa Periodontics as the Practice Administrator. She is a member of the American Association of Dental Office Managers. Marilyn also facilitates two groups of Dental Office Managers in Mason City and Rochester. Marilyn would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Marilyn makes her home in Rochester, MN as well. She has two married children, a son and daughter. She keeps busy in her off hours doing Grandma care for her two granddaughters.
Marsha HartmanRDH, B.S., Continuing Education Coordinator
Marsha is a graduate of the University of Iowa. She joined Dr. Fortman in 1979 as a dental hygienist. Over the past several years, she has spent most of her time working with general dental offices in the areas of patient care and developing and implementing office programs emphasizing periodontal treatment. Additionally, Marsha is a consultant for Mavin Dental Solutions. Marsha makes her home in Rochester, MN and is the mother of two sons and one daughter. She has two granddaughters and a grandson and enjoys visiting them in Denver Colorado!
McKenzie is the first smiling face that will greet you when you enter our office. McKenzie will be able to assist you in scheduling and any other need you have. She is very empathetic towards your wishes. You may also see McKenzie helping out in our clinical area as she is also a dental assistant! When McKenzie is not working, she is home spoiling her two wiener dogs and helping her mother take care of her daycare children.
We are so fortunate to have DeAnne at our front desk! DeAnne has a vast dental background and is happy to help you plan your treatment. In the summer months you can find DeAnne spending her weekends in Minnesota near the Cannon River with her husband and two dogs. DeAnne has two adult children, a boy and a girl.
Jenna HauanRDH, B.S.
Jenna, a dental hygienist, graduated from Mankato State University in Mankato, MN. Jenna enjoys assisting each of our patients to achieve a higher level of health using education as a stepping stone to success. Jenna travels from Lake Mills, IA to work at North Iowa Periodontics. She is the proud mother of two children, a boy and a girl! Jenna is a twin!
Laura joined North Iowa Periodontics after long time hygienist, Trese, retired. Laura is excited to see our periodontal therapy patients and assist them in preserving their dental health. Laura is both kind and caring. Laura is the mother of three. Her and her husband enjoy time spent with their two young boys and daughter. On her off days you will most likely find Laura out in her lawn doing yard work!
Trese CastleRDH, B.S., CCA
Trese, a graduate from the University of Iowa, worked with Dr. Fortman for nearly 30 years. Trese retired in May of 2018. We are so fortunate that Trese continues to see patients when Jenna or Laura are not available Trese is the mother of three and grandmother of nine! She is enjoying cooking and baking, biking, fishing, and a number of other things in retirement!
Courtney works with Dr. Fortman and our patients assisting them through their periodontal treatment. The wellbeing of each of our patients is Courtney’s #1 goal. She has two daughters we like to refer to as “Mini Me’s”.
Emily joins Courtney in caring for our patients before, during and after procedures. Emily’s bright smile will put you immediately at ease.
